LG C5 and B5 OLED TVs: Exciting Updates with Mixed News

At CES 2025, I had the opportunity to explore LG’s latest TV offerings in their demo room, highlighting their newest flagship models, the LG G5 and M5. In addition to these premium sets, I also got a glimpse of the LG C5 mid-range OLED TV. This was particularly valuable, as LG had not officially announced it prior to the event.

Here’s what I discovered about the new LG C5 and the upcoming LG B5 model:

The LG C5 is set to introduce a couple of notable changes:

  • Brighter Display: LG claims the C5 will be somewhat brighter than the LG C4, although they did not share specific figures. It appears the increase in brightness is likely due to enhancements in the power management system of its processor.
  • No Major Panel Upgrade: There are no significant upgrades to the panel technology, such as MLA OLED, which the LG G5 has adopted. The C5 remains a 144Hz 4K display, with no increase to 165Hz like in the G5 version.
  • Smart Features: With the introduction of webOS 25, the C5 will incorporate smart personal profiles and advanced AI chatbot features, similar to those found in the LG G5. This allows for voice recognition, personalizing the experience based on who is using the TV.
  • Customized Profiles: Each profile can have a unique home screen layout and picture mode preferences. For example, after tailoring the AI Picture wizard for different users, the C5 will adjust automatically to the designated preferences when switching profiles.
  • Size Options: The LG C5 will continue to offer a wide range of sizes, from a compact 42 inches all the way up to a massive 83 inches.

Now, the LG B5

The LG B5 model was not showcased at CES, but LG confirmed its development and shared a few specifications:

  • Processor: The B5 will utilize an Alpha 7 processor, expected to deliver performance comparable to the LG B4.
  • Brightness Levels: While specifics were not disclosed, LG indicated that the B5 will achieve a brightness similar to that of the previous model, the LG B4. However, the brightness of the LG G5 is rumored to be three times greater.
  • Limited Size Availability: Notably, the B5 will only be available in limited sizes, departing from last year’s broader options. It’s anticipated that the B5 will come in either 65 inches or a choice between 55 or 77 inches, leaving behind the 48-inch option introduced in 2024.

This downsizing in options is disappointing for consumers seeking budget-friendly alternatives, especially after the discontinuation of the A series of OLED TVs. As the price margins between the B and C series narrow, it raises concerns about the future of the B series in keeping OLED technology accessible.
