Trailer Insights

The recently released trailer for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has provided a glimpse into what players can expect. Notably, the video showcases race tracks inspired by well-loved locations such as Dinosaur Jungle from Sonic and the Secret Rings and Metal Harbor from Sonic Adventure 2. A particularly thrilling highlight is the confirmed return of the Extreme Gear boards, allowing players to race using these iconic vehicles from the Sonic Riders series.

Dynamic Features

One of the most intriguing aspects of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is the introduction of dynamic courses. Players will experience the thrill of transforming vehicles that can switch between land, sea, and air, reminiscent of the beloved Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed. Additionally, on the second lap of each race, the lead racer will have the option to choose between two Travel Rings. These can teleport them to different sections of the varied and imaginative worlds available, adding an element of unpredictability and excitement to every race.

Another innovative feature being introduced is the Frenzy Gate, which transports racers to random locations on the track, further enhancing the chaotic fun that the Sonic Racing series is known for.

Customization Options

Players looking to personalize their experience will be pleased to know that customization is a central aspect of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. Cars will not only be customizable in appearance but also in terms of perks. This allows gamers to create a vehicle that suits their style and performance preferences. Unlike previous titles, characters in this installment will not be restricted to specific cars; they will have the freedom to race in any type of vehicle. This marks a significant evolution for the franchise, allowing for more versatile gameplay.

Closed Network Test

For fans eager to jump into the action ahead of the official release, a closed network test is scheduled for February 21. Participants can sign up starting February 18, providing a unique opportunity to experience the game firsthand. During this test phase, players will compete online across various courses, featuring a selection of playable characters including:

  • Sonic
  • Tails
  • Knuckles
  • Amy
  • Shadow
  • Cream
  • Eggman
  • Omega
  • Zazz

Beyond these characters, the trailer teases the addition of other fan favorites, such as Sage, Jet the Hawk, Silver, Vector, and Charmy.

Characters and Franchises

As confirmed in the PlayStation Blog post about Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, players can look forward to racing alongside iconic characters from both the Sonic and Sega universes. This inclusion hints at a diverse lineup that extends beyond just the Sonic franchise. There’s potential for characters from other beloved franchises such as Super Monkey Ball, Samba de Amigo, and perhaps even Nights, akin to past entries in the Sonic Racing series.

With all these exciting features lined up, fans are eagerly anticipating the game’s full release, though a specific date still remains unannounced. For now, the closed network test provides an enticing preview of what’s to come.
